Eat. Pray. Love. (2010)

After divorcing her husband, Lisa is trying to reinvent herself. As a result, she decides to leave her comfort zone and set off for a one-year journey abroad. The movie takes us to Italy and shows the joys of the Italian cuisine, onwards to India where Lisa discovers the power of prayer, and finally to Bali where she finds the inner peace. The movie was based on a book that was based on true events.

Midnight in Paris (2011)

A wonderful Woody Allen movie is romance, comedy, and fantasy all in one. The main character, a writer named Gil comes to Paris with his fiancé Inez and her parents. After taking a walk one evening he suddenly finds himself in Paris of 1920s! Here Gil faces some surprises and challenges, one of them being, how to come back to his fiance?

Before Sunrise (1995), Before Sunset (2004), Before Midnight (2013)

This is a wonderful trilogy that many of us grew up with. A Frenchwomen named Celine and an American man named Jesse meet on a train heading from Budapest to Vienna. They spend the night walking around the Austrian capital and talking until they need to go their separate ways. The second movie shows them meeting for the second time 9 years later in Paris, where Jesse comes to present his novel. The last movie shows what have happened to the two characters in the end.

Under the Tuscan sun (2005)

A travel and romantic movie classic, “Under the Tuscan sun” shows us the life of Frances who is trying to get back on her feet after a divorce. As a result, she buys a shabby villa in the Italian region of Tuscany. Yet Frances cannot imagine that the house renovation will also bring her new feelings…

Chocolat (2014)

Together with her daughter, Vianne moves into a calm medieval French town, where she opens a chocolate shop. Conservative local residents get the chance to taste sweets and other guilty pleasures. Vianne’s behavior worries the local prudes, as a charming stranger starts coming into the shop. The film was nominated for tons of awards, including 5 Academy Awards and 4 Golden Globes.

Letters to Juliet (2010)

Verona is known as a city where Romeo met Juliet. Sophie comes to Verona with her fiancé Victor who dreams about opening here a restaurant. In Verona, there is a wall where people can write and leave letters to Juliet, and they are being answered by “Juliet’s secretaries”. Sophie starts working as one of them as she struggles to get attention from her fiancé. One day Sophie gets a letter from Claire Smith to whom she answers and so the story begins.

A Good Year (2006)

This romantic comedy follows the life of Max Skinner who spent his childhood in his uncle Henry’s vineyard in Provence (France). 25 years later, after the death of the uncle, Max has to take care of the property he inherited. He rushes to sell the vineyard, yet everything changes after Max meets Fanny, a local café owner.

Call me by your name (2018)

Hot summer of 1983. A 17-year-old dreamer called Elio spends his lazy summer vacation in his parents’ residence in Northern Italy. He listens to music, plays piano, reads books, plays volleyball, flirts with girls and goes on night adventures. One day a young academic from the USA, called Oliver, comes to spend 6 weeks in the family’s villa. This is a sensual story about first love.

Vicky. Christina. Barcelona (2008)

As the title suggests, the story of the film is based in Barcelona. Two girlfriends get themselves involved in a weird love triangle with a hot local painter, called Juan. A real Spanish drama begins when the two friends start fighting for the guy.

Nothing to Declare / Rien à déclarer (2010)

This wonderful comic story with a flare of romance takes us to the border between France and Belgium, where two border control officers work in 1993. A Frenchman Mathias and a Belgian man Ruben truly hate each other. Moreover, Ruben doesn’t know that his biggest enemy Mathias is secretly dating his sister Louise and is even planning to marry her! The fun begins when the border control is revoked and both men become co-workers.

Sonnenallee (1999)

This excellent movie tells a story about the time when Berlin was divided. All of the eastern Berlin residents dreamed about moving to western Berlin. A local East Berlin resident Micha is madly in love with Miriam, yet she is only interested in guys from West Berlin. This is a story about love, friendship and a longing for freedom.
